In 2005, Art began teaching special education at Anton Chico under Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools, where he served for seven years before retiring. While in Anton Chico, he proudly joined American Legion Post 101, where friends became family, and worked to help establish a Sons of the American Legion squadron.
