We are sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Ravenel. He was our dad's first employer and professional mentor. Dad enjoyed swapping stories with him, as well as learning from him. One of our fondest childhood memories was our trip to D.C. when he was serving in Congress, riding on the private elevator and eating lunch with him. How nice of him to allow us such a special memory. They may be entertaining each other in Heaven with their stories! Sending our sympathy and love during this difficult time.

My parents met Authur in 1959 when I was in 3rd grade. My sister and one of Arthur's sons is mentally handicapped and they all worked together on behalf of that cause. He was also responsible for getting the family involved in politics. My father even shared a birthday with Arthur. I will mourn him in their honor because they both passed away about 10 years ago.
I was glad to see that Arthur had such a long and productive life.

It seems that everyone in the Lowcountry was positively impacted by Arthur. We saw him annually at family reunions and I was able to visit him when he served in Washington and in Columbia. He was more-than-helpful for so many noble causes. When he got behind something, there was an excellent chance of its success. His grasp of history was unparalleled. We all lost a dear friend.

Upon returning to Charleston in the late 1980s, Linda and I had the pleasure of meeting Arthur on numerous occasions at speaking engagements, realestate activities and social functions. Never in my life have I met a person who could match Arthur's charisma and wit. He was so enthusiastic and joyful to be around. Never a sad moment in my memories of Arthur until I heard of his passing. Cousin Arthur always had so many great quotes, but one in particular comes to my mind. "Cuz, if you be for me, I'll be for you". He will be missed by so many, but his memories will be everlasting.

We met Mr Ravenel several years ago while attending church during our annual Charleston vacation. We always attend services here at one of the many historic churches. He came over to greet us and talked up a storm about the history of the church, especially the organ. What a charming man. We are here yet again vacationing this week and very sorry to hear of his passing.

I first met Cousin Arthur in 1955. About the second thing he said to me was, "Have you ever eaten octopus?" He pulled a little can out of his pocket and told me to try it. After chewing about fifteen minutes and it was going nowhere I sneaked into the restroom and spit it out. He was a different and great man. He will be missed by many.

I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Ravenel´s passing. Back in the late eighties I contacted him to help me with a very difficult situation that I was facing. I admit I didn´t really expect him to respond to my letter but to my surprise he answered right away and was able to resolve my problem. I will never forget his kind and caring words to me. He was truly a good man. May he rest in peace. My prayers are with the family.

I will never forget that you drove across the bridge in 1989 after the big snowfall to attend my Daddy's funeral service at Stuhr"s downtown. Thanks for looking out for my sister Miriam when she worked in your real estate office. You were a family friend for many years and we always loved you!

To say that Cousin Arthur is a legend is probably the understatement of all time. He has been my friend since 1975 when I first entered the political arena. He is and always will be a giant of a man who devoted his whole life to the service of his country and to our/HIS people. Rest in peace old friend. We love you.
