Arthur Sternberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel, Inc. on Mar. 6, 2026.
It is with great sadness the family of Arthur R. Sternberg Sr. announce his passing. On March 3, 2026 he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Sternberg and Helen Schneider and his beloved son Arthur R. Sternberg Jr.

Art is survived by his wife Patricia (McCarthy) Sternberg, however for the past 50 years, he lovingly referred to her as "his bride", his daughter Jennifer (Jacob) Riebock and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel, Lilia, Joseph, Alexander and Emily, and his brother John (Joyce) Sternberg. And we would never forget his very best work sidekick and best buddy for the past 14 years, his Goldendoodle, Stormy.

Art was a man whose love of automobiles started at a very young age. During his early adulthood you'd find him at the racetrack working on and racing his stock car. He then continued this into a career in the auto repair industry for 32 years.

In 2002, at the age of 50, he took a leap of faith and started a new career as a Matco Tool Distributor. This leap turned out to be his calling and not only did he love it, he quickly gained many customers who became wonderful friends. He was lovingly known for the phrase "Let's Go Shopping", M&Ms on his truck and Stormy who was his faithful companion. He loved most when his grandchildren would go on "Papas tool truck" and pick out something they wanted, often an expensive model car!

Nothing was more important to Art than his family. He was happiest when surrounded by them and being able to give to them, we are pretty sure the word "no" was never said by Papa.

Art was a beacon of selfless kindness, sincerity and love. He was a true man of his word. If you knew him- you loved him. The pain in our hearts at his passing is only topped by the love and amazing memories he so freely gave us all. We will deeply miss his sense of humor. We know in Heaven he will never need a "battery recharge", he will never be just "resting my eyes" and everything he eats will be "good soup." We are so grateful for the lifetime of memories.

A memorial visitation will be held on Monday March 9, 2026 from 4 PM-8 PM at Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Rand Rd., Mt. Prospect, Illinois 60056. For further information please call (847) 394-2336.
