Arthur Stringer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 21, 2025.
Arthur Henry Stringer, 84, of Lee, died on November 28, 2025, in the home he built and loved, surrounded by close family.

Art was born on May 17, 1941, in Burlington, VT, to Arthur W. Stringer and Ruth E. (Volz) Stringer. He grew up exploring Lake Champlain and the surrounding woods, interests that stayed with him and later found expression in his love of the Berkshire hills.

Art earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont and worked for General Electric for 38 years, most of that time in the Large Power Transformer Division in Pittsfield. While proud of his work-including helping design what was once the largest power transformer in the world-outside of work, Art found great satisfaction in caring for the places and people around him.

Art was most content at home, where he loved working on his house and yard, putting to use his knack for building and fixing things. He also enjoyed spending time in the local forests, maintaining trails and mapping the remnants of the old home sites and roads. Many who visit Kennedy Park in Lenox will remember Art for his tireless care of the trails, deep knowledge of the park's history, and endless supply of dog treats. He was often there with one of his beloved dog companions-Nikki, Ali, Molly, or Daisy.

Art will be remembered by all who knew him for his generosity and quiet strength, his quick sense of humor, the practical wisdom and steady care he brought to everyday life, and his gentle love for his family. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Stringer; son, Paul Stringer (Andrea); granddaughter, Hannah Stringer; sister, Linda Edwards (Jay); niece and nephews, Jennifer (Edwards) Maxwell, and Thomas and John Edwards; cousin, Midge Carson; and second cousin Patrick Carson.

A celebration of Art's life will be held later in the new year. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Art's memory to the Berkshire Humane Society. To share a message of condolence please visit www.kellyfuneralhome.net.
