Arthur Boyce Webb

ARTHUR BOYCE WEBB 82, of Bowie, Maryland passed away on April 9, 2024. He was the son of CDR. Boyce S. Webb, Ret. and Ruth Agatha Webb who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Sarah Johns Webb whom he married in 1967. He is also survived by his son Carson S. Webb and his daughter-in-law Michelle Webb of Palmer, Alaska. 

Art graduated from Fishburn Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia in 1959 where he was on their rifle team. He always loved the school and later in life became his class agent. Upon graduation from Fishburn Military School, he attended The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia for one year. Art transferred to Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama where he received his pharmacy degree in 1963. He was President of his Theta Chi Fraternity for two years while attending Auburn. In October 1966 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Medical Service Corps. Between 1968-1969 he served a year in Vietnam as a Preventive Medical Officer with the 172nd Preventative Medicine Unit where he received the Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster. After three years in the Army, he returned to Auburn, a school he loved, to finish his Doctorate in Entomology in 1975. After graduation he returned to active duty in the Army. He continued his education in the Army earning a Masters of Science in Public Health from the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Art culminated his 22 year career at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute, Defense Nuclear Energy in Bethesda, Maryland where he received The Legion of Merit Award while serving as Chief Linear Accelerator/Cobalt Division and Army Element Commander. He retired in 1994 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was so blessed that the friendships he made there lasted a lifetime. Art was so fortunate to have a second enjoyable career at the Lowden County, Virginia Health Department for 16 years before retirement in 2019. He always said he was so appreciative to have worked with so many wonderful, accepting and diverse people. He said these were people who every day tried to make a difference in people's health and life. He held those friendships close to his heart. 

A memorial service will be held at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland at 2pm on May 25, 2024. Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on September 9, 2024 at 1pm.
