Arvella Johnson

With sorrow, we announce the passing of Arvella Kay "Peggy" Johnson (Carsrud), who at the age of 85, departed this life on November 24, 2025, while wintering in Edinburg, Texas. Born on July 20, 1940, to Vernon and Mary (Laddusaw) Carsrud in Brookings, SD. Peggy was a woman of grace, known for her steadfast presence and the nurturing care she extended to all.

After her marriage to Harry Johnson they moved to Coon Rapids, MN, where they built a life together. Following Harry's passing Peggy returned to hometown of Brookings before eventually spending her winters in Edinburg, TX - a place that brought comfort and sunshine during the later years of her life.

Peggy received her education at Brookings School and dedicated her working years to serving her community. Her professional journey included positions at a local dry cleaning establishment, Northtown Mall in Minnesota, and the Brookings Clinic, where her diligent work and warm interactions left a lasting impression on colleagues and patrons alike.

A life rich in simple joys, Peggy found pleasure in the tranquility of travel, the camaraderie of camping, the challenge of a good card game, and the delight of a successful shopping expedition. Above all, her heart was most content in the company of her family and friends, whose lives she enriched with her unwavering love and support.

Peggy's memory is cherished by her devoted daughters, Tamera "Jody" Johnson and Suzanne (Jimmy) Paige; her bonus daughter Amanda Norgaard; her brother, Richard (Pat) Carsrud; and her adored grandchildren, Sarah (James) Bean, Jennafer (Brad) Balgie, Austin (Ericka) Johnson Litsey, Michelle (Jason Vostad) Carlson, Anthony (Katie) Carlson, Ashley (Jeremy) Hargens, and Shelby (Brandon) Anderson. Her legacy also lives on through numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who became family.

Preceding her in passing were her husband, Harry Johnson; her infant daughter, Sheila; son, Scott; her long-term partner, Kenneth Herren; her parents, Vernon and Mary; her parent in laws Charles and Amanda Johnson; sisters-in-law, Jean Lee and Hazel Carsrud; brother in law Bob Lee; her nephew, Larry Carsrud; and her niece, Diana Lee.

The family will hold a memorial service to honor Peggy's life and memory, with details to be announced. Her gentle spirit and the love she shared will continue to be a beacon of light for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
