Arvid Straatmeyer, 85 of Lennox, passed away on November 3. 2024 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage, Sioux Falls. Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the Germantown Presbyterian Church, rural Chancellor with burial in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Wednesday at the church. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.
Arvid Arthur Straatmeyer was born on April 30, 1939 at Lennox, SD to Arnold and Alice (Fischer) Straatmeyer. After graduating from Lennox High School in 1957 he served in the South Dakota Air National Guard for 6 years. On October 16,1959 he was united in marriage to Shari Stymiest at Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in the Lennox area their entire 48 years of marriage. He was employed with John Morrell and Company for 30 years in sausage manufacturing, maintenance for 15 years with the Glory House, 15 years with Sunrise Manor and 10 years at First English Lutheran Church. For many years he was the president of the Lennox Senior Citizens and a member of the Lennox American Legion. Over the years he was active in Sprint Car Racing and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was a proud member of AA, having received his 50 year chip in August. He served as state president and as a delegate at several national conventions.
Grateful for having shared his life are his three children, Brent (Kim) Straatmeyer, Lennox, Brenda (Gene) Mayfield, Lennox, and Randy (JJ) Straatmeyer, Hurley; 7 grandchildren, Colt (Jessica) Mayfield, Ashley (Danny) Rommereim, Whitney (Jeremy) Seykora, Brodie (Katie) Mayfield, Dereck Straatmeyer, Kiley (Sam) Winter, and Nicole (David) Roggenbuck; 15 great grandchildren, Christian, Emma, Audrey, Taylor, Creyton, Rhilynn, Oaklee, Avery, Finley, Gracie, Delaney, Quinn, Lincoln, Palmer, and Jayce; his girlfriend Ruth Miller, Cody, WY; a sister Ardell (Dale) Hill, Lennox; and a sister-in-law, Lori Straatmeyer, Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shari in 2008, and a brother Alwyn.
