Joan Edith Tate, the daughter of Dorothy (Handschin) and Ollie D Mabee, was born on September 9, 1932 in Parker, South Dakota. She traveled with her family to several towns before they settled in Sioux Falls. Joan graduated from Washington High School and soon after was joined in marriage with Robert H Tate. Their first child, Bobby Dean, was born in Sioux Falls. They young family later moved to Minneapolis where three more children were added to the family; Michael, Susan and Rachelle "Shelly".
During her life, Joan always enjoyed the water, swimming daily at Terrace Park. She liked diving from the diving board and jumping off the family boat during the many fishing trips to lakes in Minnesota. Joan liked organizing the family camping trips and the fish and chicken fry. Her family was very important to her and her family loved her. Family picnics in Sioux Falls and Minneapolis were a favorite activity for the Tate and Anderson clans. Joan was a cherished family member.
She is gone but remains forever in our hearts and minds. Joan leaves behind her children, Bobby Dean, Michael, Susan Tate and Rachelle Tate-Czermak; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and children adopted into the family. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Ollie; husband, Robert H. Tate; and a brother, Dean Mabee.
