Assunta Vicenzo Obituary

Assunta Filomena (D'Avirro) Vicenzo, 83, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 in South Windsor, CT. Assunta was born in Campodipietra, Province of Campobasso, Italy on June 30, 1939, daughter of the late Michelangelo and Candida (Barile) D'Avirro. Assunta came to America with her family at the age of 16 in May of 1956 and settled in West Hartford. Shortly there after she started a job working at Carling Electric in Hartford. She was the beloved wife of Nicholas J. Vicenzo for 63 years. After marrying her husband she worked in the family business, J & D Restaurant in Windsor for 19 years. Soon after they purchased Civi's Restaurant in South Windsor and renamed it Sepino's Restaurant where they spent the next 16 years before retiring. Upon retiring they enjoyed their winters in Delray Beach, FL. She enjoyed cooking her big Italian meals on Sunday for the whole family to enjoy. Her family looked forward to her homemade manicotti, meatballs, and sauce. It was always a special time for the entire family to be together. She will always be remembered for her giving heart. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Betty Ann Plourde and her husband Kenneth of South Windsor, and Corinne Vicenzo and her fiancé Roger Hartford of Cromwell. She leaves her four grandchildren, Rachel Kwiatkowski and her husband Benjamin of Enfield, Samantha Plourde and her fiancé Matthew Stevens of Warwick, RI, Nicholas Plourde and Carla Plourde both of South Windsor. She also leaves her sister, Emma D'Amato and her husband Frank and brother-in-law, Carmine Vicenzo, cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 4-7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. Family and friends may gather on Thursday, February 16, 2023, 9 a.m. at the funeral home; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
