Her life journey, rich with the essence of an era now past, reflected her enduring spirit and deep-rooted connection to family and community.
A dedicated professional, Atha retired from the well-regarded S & S Cafeteria, where she was known not only for her steadfast work ethic but also for her ability to nurture a warm and inviting atmosphere within the establishment. Her passion for service extended beyond her vocation, as she infused her home with love and care that touched the hearts of all who entered her domain.
Atha found joy in her family, and her legacy endures through her beloved son, James Wells; her cherished daughters, Madine Edwards and Carolyn Morgan; her devoted step-daughter, Ruth Jones; and her adoring grandson, Michael Wells. Each of them carries forward the values she instilled and the memories they shared, honoring the matriarch of their family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hellen Wells and Percy Sherman Wells, who instilled in her the virtues of perseverance and kindness. These traits guided her through life's challenges, shaping her into the beloved figure she became within her community.
The final rites for Atha Bell Thomas will be held at the C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, located at 314-A Laney Walker Blvd Ext. in Augusta, Georgia. A viewing will take place on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM, allowing family and friends an opportunity to pay their respects. The funeral service will follow on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:30 PM. Interment will occur at South View Cemetery at 3:45 PM after the service, where Atha will be laid to rest in the embrace of the earth she cherished.
A life well-lived, Atha leaves behind a tapestry woven with love, memories, and lessons to be cherished by those who remain. Her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of all those who knew her, a testament to the legacy of compassion and connection she has gifted to her family and community.
