Lynn, MA - It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing at home of Athina Ziavras on Sunday October 20, 2024. She was the wife of the late Evangelos Ziavras and the daughter of the late Ioannis and Efstathia Kalantzis. Born in Pellana, Sparta, Greece on April 13th, 1936, she came to the United States in June 1971 with her husband and her 2 children.
She worked as a meat packer at Old Neighborhood meats for many years until she retired in 2002. She was a member of Saint George Greek orthodox church of Lynn. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and crocheting.
Besides her children Nickolas Ziavras of Melrose and Vicky Ziavras Nikolopoulos of North Reading, she is also survived by her grandchildren, Evan Ziavras and his wife Valerie of Bedford, MA, Athena Petrides and her husband Demetrios of Haverhill, MA and Elias Nikolopoulos of North Reading, MA and her great-grandchildren Eleni Ziavras and Roman Petrides. She is the sister of the late Pantelis Kalantzis and his wife Vasiliki, Elias Kalantzis and his wife Katerina and the late Konstantinos Kalantzis. She also leaves several nephews.
Service Information: Her funeral services will be on Monday, October 28th 2024. Visiting hours for the wake will be from 9AM to 11AM at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church followed by a funeral service at 11AM. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectively invited. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 55 South Common St, Lynn.
