June 5, 1930 – October 19, 2025
Atwell Cornelius "A.C." Lohr, 95, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away on October 19, 2025.

Born June 5, 1930, in Spicers Mill, Virginia, he was the son of Orville Lohr and Martha Clore Lohr, and brother to Nalle Lohr and Sharon Lohr Chamberlin. He was raised in Richmond, Virginia, and carried a deep affection for his home state throughout his life.
Cornelius proudly served his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army at 17. As part of the 82nd Airborne Division, he saw live combat in Korea during the Korean War. He continued his military service afterward in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he served in various capacities including artillery, for over 30 years and retired with the rank of Colonel.
After returning home from Korea, he took advantage of the GI Bill to pursue his education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech), earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and completing most of his coursework toward a Master's degree. As an engineer, he dealt with air pollution control issues with Burlington Industries, and later worked at Alternative Energy Corporation in Research Triangle Park.
Cornelius raised his family in High Point with his wife of 61 years, Mary Rydingsvard Lohr. He is survived by Mary; daughters Ingrid (David) and Kristin; grandchildren John, Bennett, and Anders; and sister Sharon Lohr Chamberlin (Douglas). He is also survived by his daughter Kathy (Ivan) from his first marriage, their children John and Rebecca, and great-grandchildren Will and Josef.
A proud Virginian, Cornelius cherished his family's roots in Madison, where his grandfather E.A. Clore founded the Clore Furniture Company. Summers and weekends spent at the family homestead surrounded by the "Clore clan" remained some of his fondest memories.
His lifelong passions were fishing and cats-both of which he loved deeply. He was also passionate about nature and wildlife and made it a lifelong habit to feed backyard birds and even those in nearby parks.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Graves Mountain Farm and Lodges, where his family shared many happy memories together.
