Aubrey McKinley Parker was born October 16, 1938, to the late Martha Oliver Parker and the late William Parker, Sr. He was, affectionately, known as "Billy". He departed this life on Friday, October 24, 2025, at his home in Burkeville, Virginia. He was baptized at an early age at Union Baptist Church in Crewe, VA.
After being educated in Nottoway County Schools, at the age of 18, Billy joined the military on October 4, 1956, and served until October 3, 1960, in the United States Airforce where he remained on active duty until his honorable discharge. His rank upon release was Airman 2nd Class. Billy served two years in the Reserves.
Billy had numerous jobs. He worked at Burkeville Veneer Plant making Bassett Furniture for several years. He was highly creative. He could draw very well. He designed anything he wanted to build. He enjoyed being outside. Through the years, you could find him outside repairing almost anything or building outdoor furniture such as picnic tables and chairs. He could turn your throw away wood or unused lumber into outdoor planters, fences, bird houses, outdoor ramps, outdoor sheds and even fishing boats, etc. He enjoyed interior and exterior painting. Yes! He fished in ponds sitting in his very own home-made boat. He poured cement, created sidewalks and left his signature initials with the date of construction. He took his love of being outside to the next level when he became an entrepreneur and started his own Lawn Care Service business. He was in such demand that he was hardly ever home. His little black or blue book had clients with schedules located in several surrounding cities and nearby counties. Billy eventually tried to find reliable help who could serve his customers as well as he. He finally decided that his helpers needed to work along with him so he could make sure they served his customers the right way. He needed to make sure they showed up to work on time and did the job right. Only a few helpers lived up to his expectations, so he usually worked alone. Most recently, he volunteered and painted the white crosses outside of Union Baptist Church just because he felt they needed to be painted, and he wanted to do it.
Billy enjoyed fishing. He often went alone or sometimes with family. He enjoyed fishing with his mom whom he lovingly called, "Queen", his nephew, Roger, or his young grandson, 'Scooter". Scooter was one of his reliable lawn care employees who he mentored and loved, dearly. Sometimes, a few friends went with him, or he went with them. After fishing, you would find him cleaning and soaking his 'Catch of the Day' to prepare them for the skillet or the freezer. He never turned down fried fish, fried chicken or fried pork chops.
Aubrey and Gladys Louise Guess (deceased) were married at an early age and resided in Dallas, Texas for a while until their marriage ended. They welcomed two children, Aubrey, Jr.(deceased) and Valerie Parker. As a result of this union, he is survived by his daughter, Valerie, two grandchildren (Leslie Parker and Jerwayne Parker. Two great grandchildren (twins) – Denim and Demani Holmes.
Many years later, Aubrey and Elaine Paulette Stewart (deceased) married on June 21, 2003. Elaine brought three children to their union – LaToya, Kanitra and Malinda Jennings. LaToya recently stated, "Pop loved us and never referred to us as his 'step' children but his daughters. His love and devotion never wavered even after mom died. Pop was really close to his grandchild, K'twain, who he affectionately called, 'Scooter'. They showed their love throughout the years by checking on him, taking him to run errands, providing meals, and assisting him whenever and with whatever he needed.
Deloris Ward, Billy's first cousin, was a God-sent blessing to him. He spoke highly and lovingly of her. She drove from Baltimore, MD to Crewe, VA, monthly taking him to Richmond, VA for doctors' appointments, visits to the Veterans Administration office; making sure he received appropriate benefits, visits to Social Services to obtain available services, helping him locate housing, assisting with furnishing his apartment, making numerous calls to obtain services and making sure medication was received on time, shopping, errands, etc. while enjoying their time together over meals and laughter. We can't thank her enough nor list everything she did to assist/support Billy.
