AUDREY BOSLEY Obituary

AUDREY BOSLEY Audrey Bosley, 72, Topeka, Kansas, died, July 10, 2025, at the House at Midland Care 17 days after a cat scan revealed many cancerous tumors present throughout her body. Audrey was born January 23, 1953, at her home, in Angelus, Kansas, to Edward and Eleanor Schlagek Baalmann, just north of Grinnell. She attended Angelus Grade School, Grinnell High School, and Fort Hays State University, where she majored in home economics, graduating there in 1976. Audrey continuously developed her artistic capacities with fiber arts from an early age. She met her husband, Dennis Bosley, in a wheat field four and a half miles south of Dighton, Kansas, on May 30, 1975. They married on May 15, 1976, at St Paul's Church in Angelus. Together, they had two sons, Carl, and Cory. Carl lives in Long Island City, New York, with his girlfriend, Mafe, and Cory lives in Bowling Green, Missouri, with his wife, Anna, and daughters, Alice, Bridget, Lassie, and Tillie. Audrey and Dennis lived on the farm seven and a half miles southeast of Dighton until 1986. While there, Audrey joined Patchwork Pals, a local needlework group. Also, they built a 3000 square foot adobe house, but due to high interest rates in financing it, they had to leave the farm and Dennis entered Washburn Law School in 1987. Audrey then worked for the State of Kansas Department of Labor as a secretary, likewise in the University of Northern Iowa Student Health Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, while Dennis worked two jobs in Waterloo after graduating from Washburn Law School in 1990. She was part of a needlework group in Cedar Falls. They moved back to Topeka in 1992, where Audrey worked for the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Kansas Department of Health, and Environment and finally Citizens Utilities Ratepayers' Board before retiring. While in Topeka, she participated in a number of needlework groups including the Capital City Quilters Guild and the Potwin Fiber Artists; she also had a booth at the Downtown Farmers' Market for several years. Their 49-year marriage did not quite make it to 50, or 60 or 70 as planned. Audrey is survived by her husband, Dennis; sons, Carl (Mafe) and Cory (Anna); grandchildren, Alice, Bridget, Lassie, and Tillie; brothers, Ron (Maria), Mark (Geraldine), Joe (Lynn); and sister-in-law, Barbara Jones (Stan). She was preceded in by two brothers, Jerry and Ken. Audrey's memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Topeka, 4775 SW 21st Street, Topeka KS 66604. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. at the Church. Audrey was cremated and inurnment will be at a later date. Her family suggests memorial contributions to the House at Midland Care or Valeo Foundation, and sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Audrey will truly be missed by our family. We met Aurdry through my classmate Connie while at Ft Hays State. Audrey was at our home several times doing those early years in the 70's. She always said we were like sisters from another Mother. She had all brother and I also had brother on our farms. We have stayed friends all these years and we pray for her and the family.

To Dennis and the rest of Audrey's family, I wish I had some splendid words of insight or wisdom for you, but that is not something I can offer. Much of the time I spent with Audrey was, in fact, saying nothing at all. In silent meditation in our zen sangha was really how I came to know Audrey and Dennis, and later through involvement with the UUFT. You can learn a lot about someone by spending time together in silence as I did with Audrey for many years, as afterwards the words they speak ring with such great gravity. I have good memories of helping Audrey around the house when Dennis was on the road, and her kind, curious, creative, honest nature. She was a light to me, guiding me in my own journey, as I know she was to many. Ji jong bosal for Audrey, and kwan seum bosal for her beloved family, especially Dennis with whom I have shared the same sacred silence.
