Mrs. Audrey A. Gurd, age 89, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Christian Haven Home. She was born March 27, 1934, in Toivola, Minnesota to Konstu and Feemia (Saralampi) Perala.
After high school she moved to Allen Park, Michigan where she met and married James (Jim) Gurd on Oct. 8, 1955. She devoted much of her life to caring for those with special needs. She worked for the Grand Haven Public Schools system as a special education teacher's aide.
Audrey was an avid sports fan and despite living in Michigan for most of her life, she remained loyal to beloved Minnesota teams, especially the Vikings, Twins and Gophers. She became a NASCAR fan as soon as her grandson showed an interest in the sport. Audrey also enjoyed gardening and playing cards with friends.
She is survived by three daughters: Lori (Jeff Larkin) Gurd, Pamela Jo Gurd, and Julie (Patrick) Moroschan; and grandson, Chad Larkin. She is also survived by two sisters, Arlene Laine and Janet Young; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews. Jim preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2019.
Visitation will take place 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. A private family service will take place at Lakeshore Cemetery.
