Audrey Ann Lacy Murray was touched by the Angel of Peace on January 27, 2026. She was the eldest child born on March 3, 1947, in
Palestine, Texas, to the proud parents of Ousley Lacy Sr. and Mary Bell Lacy.
Audrey or "Audrey Ann", as most of her family and friends called her, accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church in
Palestine, Texas. After graduating from A.M. Story High School in 1965, she attended Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. After graduation, she faithfully supported her family as a homemaker and worked in various office roles or as a substitute teacher. Her life journey included time in Corpus Christi and later Garland, Texas. Her official transition into the field of Education began when she returned home to Palestine I.S. D. She enthusiastically served as a schoolteacher and Reading Recovery Interventionist at Southside Elementary. As the need increased to care for her parents, she began working with the Texas Department Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Windham School District and later retired from the program. In this role, she supported inmates in earning their GEDs and strengthening literacy skills in preparation for reentry into society.
Audrey met and wed Charles W. Murray, Sr. From their union two children were born, Charles W. Murray, Jr., a computer software architect and Carla Murray-Sadler, an administrator in Spring I.S.D.
A woman of deep faith, she served the Lord faithfully through her church. At New Jerusalem Baptist Church, she served as Youth Director, Youth Choir Leader, and Sunday School teacher. Later, she and her parents united with West Union Baptist Church, where she continued her service as a devoted member and community volunteer. She loved serving the Lord in whatever capacity needed and had a special love for working with the choir and youth. Caring for her parents required that she spent time between Palestine and the Houston area. During this season, she joined The Fountain of Praise under watchcare, remaining faithful in her walk with the Lord.
Her personal endeavors included stepping out on faith to open her own business, Special Occasion & Crafts. She used her creativity to bless family and friends through cakes made for special celebrations. Her final creation was made with love for her daughter's wedding. She found joy in cooking for her family, spending time with loved ones, reading her Bible, and was remembered for her beautiful smile.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Ousley Lacy Sr. and Mary Bell Lacy, and her two brothers, Deacon Ousley Lacy Jr. and Winfred Lacy.
She leaves to cherish her memory two children: Charles W. Murray, Jr. (Cara) of
Richmond, TX., and Carla Murray-Sadler (Cal) of
Spring, TX; four grandchildren, Ruth Ann Murray (John), Ryan Murray, Tre'maine Sadler, and Caleb Sadler; two great-grandchildren, Melanie Montes and Elijah Montes; three brothers, Rev. Donald Lacy (Paula) of
Humble, TX., Sidney Lacy (Debbie) of
Palestine, TX., and Deacon Patrick Lacy (Linda) of
Channelview, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, and friends.
