August L. Heiman, 65, of Watertown, passed away surrounded by his family at home on December 27, 2025.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home. Family and friends may gather at Hafemeister Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
August Lee Heiman was born on March 23, 1960, in Watertown, the son of Leroy and Carol (née Mass) Heiman. August attended Fort Atkinson High School and served in the Army National Guard for 19 years. On February 25, 1980, he began a lifelong career at Watertown Metals. Throughout his 35 years of service there, he demonstrated a tireless work ethic, progressing from his initial role as a machine operator to become a tool and die maker. August married the former Jeanett Petrus on April 4, 1981, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Together, they shared 44 years and raised three children.
August was never more himself than when he was outdoors. His weekends were defined by the peace of the cabin and the thrill of the hunt, from the quiet patience of fishing and ice fishing to the focused precision required for hunting deer and turkey with gun, bow, and black powder. In the winter, he could often be found enjoying the trails on his snowmobile.
August was a man of unique character and quiet strength. He found simple enjoyment in trips to the casino to play blackjack, but his greatest joy was found in the company of his family. He took special pride in being a grandfather, never missing an opportunity to spoil his grandkids with love and attention.
August is survived by his wife, Jeanett; mother, Carol Macovich; children, Jason (Jennifer) Heiman, Nicole (Douglas) Ketelhohn, and Kristopher (Rachel) Heiman; grandchildren, Isabelle, Jackson, Adam, Eli, Oliver, Bailey Taylar, Bailey Maeve, Owen, and Summer; great-grandchildren, Bennett, Paisley, and Emmet; siblings, Susie, Jean, Vinnie, and Kenny; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
August was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Heiman, and siblings, Jerome, Paul, Glen, and Alice.
