August Zymantas Obituary

August Zymantas passed away on September 28, 2025. He was 77 years old.

Augie was born in Germany to a Lithuanian family and immigrated to the United States at the age of four. His family settled in Bridgeport, just a stone's throw from Comiskey Park-perhaps the very place where his lifelong love for the Chicago White Sox began.

He was raised and educated at Angel Guardian Orphanage, where he developed both his athletic talents and a strong aptitude for math. A gifted athlete, Augie went on to coach baseball and umpire softball, sharing his love of sports with others. He was also an exceptional bowler, achieving the rare feat of two perfect 300 games. Augie had a passion for golf and enjoyed the occasional cigar, savoring life's simple pleasures.

A true Chicago sports fan, Augie had an unwavering loyalty to the White Sox and the Bears. For many years, he organized legendary tailgate parties that brought together family and friends in celebration. He was a familiar face at every holiday gathering and took special pride in being the best Santa Claus, delighting children and adults alike with his joyful spirit. He rarely missed a chance to support his nieces and nephews at their sports competitions.

Augie had a deep love for animals, especially his beloved kitties. But above all, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and enduring faithfulness. He was a devoted partner to Nancy, especially during her illness, and a loving father to his sons, Tim and Mark, and their families.

Augie lived a life marked by quiet strength, boundless generosity, and a heart full of love. He gave without expecting anything in return and leaves behind a legacy of faith, loyalty, and joy.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Augie was the loving partner of Kate Timmers and loving husband of the late Nancy Zymantas-Maquiness; cherished father of Tim (Jen) Zymantas, Mark Zymantas, C.P.D., and step-father to Jessica (Dan) DeGrenier and Danielle (Rachel) Martorano; devoted grandfather of Haley and Zachary Zymantas; cherished brother of Nijole (the late Rich) Pabst, Rich (Arlene) Zymantas, Raymond (Laurie Lyon) Zymantas, Chris (Cindy) Zymantas, and the late Regina Zymantas; caring daddy of Pokey and Skittles. Augie was also a cousin, uncle, and dear friend to many. Visitation Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago.
