Augusta Saye Cook, age 88, of Rock Hill, SC passed away on Wednesday, May 17th, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
The visitation for the family will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM at her home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church located at 234 E. Main Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730 at 11:00 AM with Rev. William Pender officiating. Interment will be held at Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church at 3087 Fishing Creek Road, Chester, SC 29706.
Augusta was born on September 2, 1934, in Chester, SC. She was the daughter of the late James Hodge Saye and Jean Hollis Saye. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Lewisville High School and Winthrop College. Augusta retired from Fort Mill Elementary School after teaching third grade for twenty-seven years- she loved her third graders.
Augusta loved her family and her church. She was a member of many bridge clubs and loved working in her yard and feeding and enjoying her birds.
She is survived by her children, Evelyn Cox, Ben Cox (Rose), Jean Freeman (Eddie) and Joe Cox (Beth Gaston); her grandchildren, Cammie Gardner, Heather Bundrick (Brandon), Lindsey Jones (Matt), Andrew Freeman, and Jordan Freeman, as well as her great grandchildren, Marley Gardner, Zada Adkins, and Miles Bundrick.
In addition to her parents and late husbands, Ernest Benjamin Cox, Jr. and James Blackmon Cook, Augusta was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Gaston Saye, James Hodge Saye (Millie) and Jean Saye Wilkinson (Stanley).
Memorials in Augusta's name may be made to First Presbyterian Church at PO Box 1011, Rock Hill, SC 29731 or to Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church at 3087 Fishing Creek Road, Chester, SC 29706.
