Augustyn Stec

Our beloved Augustyn Stec passed away on Sunday, March 9, at the age of 84, surrounded by his closest loved ones. He departed peacefully in Hinsdale, Illinois, the town he called home. It was there that he shared many happy years with his devoted wife of 57 years and their six children.
Augustyn was a dedicated and caring father, husband, scholar, caregiver, and serviceman. Born in Poland in 1941, he earned his medical doctorate degree from Jagiellonian University Medical College in Kraków. In 1970, he moved to the United States and continued his medical career. He served patients for over 40 years, including time in the military and as Chief of Neurology at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago.
His patients will forever remember him as a kind physician who was generous with his care and time. His appointments notoriously ran long because he wanted to give the ill the gift of being fully heard. A humble and soft-spoken man with a calming presence, he knew that caring required patience, empathy, and attentiveness to the body and soul.
Augustyn's warmth and generosity touched everyone he met, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Ann Stec. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Stec; daughters Renata (Colin) Hinkle, Monica (Christopher) Pajak, Susan Stec, and Christine Stec; son Alexander (Gabrielle) Stec; granddaughters Sofia Pajak, Lilia Pajak, and Charlotte Hinkle; and many family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 S. Grant Street, Hinsdale, IL 60521. The funeral mass will be held Friday, March 14 at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m, 306 W 4th St, Hinsdale, IL 60521. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.
