It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ausencio Armando Maldonado. He will be missed dearly but we are comforted by the promise of eternal life through Christ. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Armando was born December 18, 1949, in Pharr, Texas, to parents Sevastiana Sandoval and Julian Maldonado. Armando began working in his family's fields in Mexico at a very young age showing the determination and strong work ethic that would define his life. At just 13 years old, he came to the United States, settling in San Antonio before traveling north for work and eventually returning to the city he called home. He often worked two to three jobs at a time to support his family back in Mexico, never once complaining-only striving to give others a better life.

In 1974, he married the love of his life, Teresa. A hopeless romantic, he never forgot an anniversary-often picking wildflowers at dawn, crafting gifts from pennies and flowers, or even rearranging the letters on a vehicle to spell her name. Their love was a quiet, enduring example of devotion.

Through his tireless efforts, he helped bring his brothers, most of his sisters, and their families to the United States, giving them the opportunity for a better life and helping shape the future of generations to come. Being a faithful man, he served at St. Lawrence as usher and Eucharist minister for many years. His servant heart and dedication to others was reflected in his children, who each went on to serve their community with pride, each choosing a path of service-eldest son Armando, serving in the U.S. Navy from 2000 to 2014, his daughter, Lorena, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1996 to 2002, and his youngest son, Miguel, joined the San Antonio Police Department in 2006.

He was jack of all trades and master of many; a skilled fleet mechanic, remodeled their home, and had a gift for fixing just about anything-whether it was a small engine, plumbing, or electrical work. His hands built, fixed, and gave-always in service of others.

He also had a sweet tooth like no other, never passing up a peleta de cajeta, pan dulce, or a DQ banana split. Enjoyed watching sports especially boxing and soccer with his kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews. And was known for his quick wittedness, his quirky dad jokes and riddles.

Above all, he will be remembered for his generosity, humility, and the love he poured out for ALL of his family. His legacy of hard work, compassion, and service lives on through all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Julian Maldonado and Sevastiana Sandoval Maldonado survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Teresa, their three children: Armando, Lorena, and Miguel (Jessica), grandchildren Herrman (Valerie), Sebastian (Frida), Adan, Trystan, Kaesan, Camila and Aria, and great-grandchildren Midori, Vincent, Desmond, Raven, Lenora, who carry forward his legacy of love, resilience, and service. He is also survived and loved by his brothers-Gerardo, Julian, Margarito, Javier, sisters-Irene, Ines, Catarina, Josefina, Rosa, Sebastiana, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and extended family.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

"Whosoever believed in Him; shall not parish, but have everlasting life." -John 11:25-26

-Juan 11:25-26
