Austin Miller Case

Austin Miller Case, a beacon of kindness and gentle strength, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024, in Greenville, South Carolina. Born on May 8, 1948, in Rochester, New York, to the late Austin C. and Virginia M. Case, Austin was a man whose thoughtful nature touched the lives of many.

A devoted husband to his loving wife, Suzanne Case, Austin's commitment to his family and friends was unwavering. Although he now joins his parents in eternal rest, his spirit will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind, including his sister, Ginger Case Worrell, his brother, Dan Case, his goddaughter, Jennifer Stengl, and his nieces and nephews: Robbie Worrell, Matt Case, Tommy Case, and Ginia Schenning. His beloved dog, Oliver, was a constant and cherished companion, providing joy and unconditional love throughout Austin's life.

Austin's academic journey culminated in a Bachelor of Arts degree, which paved the way for his lifelong vocation as a social worker. His dedication to the community was evident through his compassionate service at the South Carolina Department of Social Services. As a licensed social worker, Austin's ability to connect with individuals and advocate for their well-being was a testament to his innate empathy and desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Austin's passions were manifold. He was a man whose hands were as skilled in the art of fixing old cars as they were in providing comfort and support to those in need. His love for racing cars was matched only by his love for reading mysteries, a pastime that allowed him to unravel complex narratives much like he unwound the challenges faced by the individuals he served. Austin's resourcefulness extended to all aspects of life, and he was often the go-to person for fixing not just cars, but household problems as well.

Described as kind, thoughtful, and gentle, Austin's character was the embodiment of these words. His presence was a source of calm in the storm, and his actions always spoke louder than words. He approached life with a quiet confidence and a warm smile that invited trust and fostered deep connections.

Austin's legacy is one of love, service, and the simple yet profound impact of a life well-lived. He was a man who understood the value of listening, the importance of being present, and the joy of sharing moments with those he loved. As we bid farewell to Austin Miller Case, we carry forward the lessons he taught us through his example—the power of kindness, the importance of family, and the enduring nature of a gentle spirit.

In keeping with Austin's humble nature, a memorial service will be held to honor his memory later this summer. As we reflect on Austin's life, we are reminded that while we may no longer see his smile or hear his voice, his influence remains a guiding force in the lives of all who knew him.

May Austin's soul find peace and joy in the next chapter of his journey, and may those who loved him find comfort in the memories and the indelible mark he left on their hearts. Austin Miller Case will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire and uplift us all. 

A memorial service will be held on August 17th, at 2:00 PM, at Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1135 State Park Rd, Greenville, SC 29609.
