Austin A. 'Sonny' or 'Autie' Lyddy III of Spring Hill, FL (formerly of Lowell, MA)
Austin A. Lyddy III died on May 31, 2023. Born on March 31, 1936 and raised in Lowell, MA, he was the eldest son of the late Austin A. and Annette (Beauregard) Lyddy, Jr.
Austin attended Keith Academy. He was Honorably Discharged from the Massachusetts National Guard. Autie retired after decades of success as a Major Account Sales Executive with Dennis Office Supply, Boise Cascade, and Office Depot.
Austin leaves his beloved companion of 20 years Ruth Ross. Ruthie and Austin competed in Artistic Roller Skating and were avid Ballroom Dancers. Ruthie introduced Austin to her large and extended family. Austin cherished all the moments he was welcomed and embraced as a Grandfather and Great Grandfather by the Ross Clan.
Austin was pre-deceased by his sister Patricia A. Nichols, brother and sister-in-law Robert D. 'Bob' and Angie Lyddy, sister and brother-in-law Cheryl E. and James Stafford Rogers.
Austin was a fanatical fan of all New England Sports Teams. He relished "taunting the vanquished" by wearing New England Championship team swag in their presence. The Red Sox World Series win in 2004 was especially, tearfully joyous.
A Master of Photography, Austin filmed and photographed family member's weddings, birthdays, christenings, musicals, plays, recitals, and events. He loved to travel. He teased pseudo-competitors with the number of countries, states, and exotic destinations conquered with the devilish smirk of a bantam rooster.
Austin's competitive spirit was prominent in his hobbies and passions -
Automobile Road Rallies, earning the Melvin Jones Fellowship in the Lions Clubs International, playing golf, roller skating for medals, cheering at sports events, attending, supporting, and documenting the band competitions of his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As a son of a particular generation, which expected the Dad to provide for the financial needs of a growing young family – Austin epitomized a "do what it takes" work ethic. When responsibilities grew as the family grew, he took a 2nd job as the sharpest dressed Maître d' at the famous Chateau de Ville of Framingham - and showcased his notorious panache.
Austin and Jane became known for cross-country camping trips with the kids, NH vacation weeks with the Marczak's, epic family house parties, and a passion for music and dance. Everyone remembers the Waffles Brunch on Sundays, the cornucopia of gifts on Christmas Day, the co-signing of first-time auto loans, the sage advice.
Austin, Autie, Sonny, Dad, Daddy, Daah, Grandpa, Bumpa, Grampa, Grampy, Papa, Uncle - all terms of endearment of a man who lived, mentored, shared, instilled, filmed, refused, demonstrated, accepted, teased, roiled, swore, scrambled, fought, defended, suffered, persevered, laughed, loved, and even cried.
Austin is survived by the last of four siblings, his sister Denise M. Lyddy and brother-in-law Bruce Ouellette.
Austin's survivors also are Jane M. (Dulemba)Lyddy - the mother of their five children: sons Master Sergeant, USA (Ret.) Dennis M. & Kelly S. Lyddy, Brian D. Lyddy, Daniel J. Lyddy, Sean P. Lyddy, and daughter Deanna M. Lyddy.
Austin legacy continues with his grandchildren - Patrick R. Lyddy and husband Victor Woodroffe, Jr., Taylor R. Lyddy, Ashton B. Lyddy, Savannah H. Lyddy, Julianna R. Lyddy, O. Daniel and David Vergara-Lyddy, and great grandchild Ariya E. Butler.
Dad! Now that you are above, you can shepherd the legacy that you created – a loving, rare, unique, talented family of sons, a daughter, grandsons, granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter. And with the twinkling eye of a bantam rooster, sitting alongside our ancestors --- guide us forward.
Austin A. Lyddy III was gracious, kind, and honorable. To put simply: He was a Good Man.
You popularized passion. We miss your presence. We will never lose you.

Sending condolences to Ruthie and all families. It is with great sadness there is such a void in our lives and missing you on the ballroom dance floor. We know you are dancing with the angels on the streets of gold. You will be missed accompanying Ruthie, to my home, enjoying fellowship sitting around my dining room table. You made us laugh so hard as you shared your many lifetime stories with us time and time again. You will not be forgotten. Rest in peace my dear friend. as God has taken all your discomfort away. We remember the trooper you were. Love to you Ruthie, and all families.
Lovingly, Glenna Jo Kropp
