NEW ZION – Autry Elmore "Rat" Morris, Sr., 80, went to his heavenly reward on Friday, July 9, 2021, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of the Pee Dee.
Born July 3, 1941, in Manning, he was a son of the late Lucius Morris and the late Annie Elmore Morris. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Kingstree. He retired from Georgia Pacific where he drove logging trucks for many years. He enjoyed watching cowboy shows, cutting grass, washing and driving his truck and spending time with Lynette.
He is survived by the love of his life and caregiver, Lynnette Ard; one son, Autry E. Morris, Jr. (Pam) of Alcolu; one daughter, Nadalyn Lighthill (John) of Hartsville; nine grandchildren, April Spigner (Matt), Dustin Poplin (Morgan), Amber Lighthill, Danny Lighthill (Hali), Autry Morris III (Brooke), Kelsey Dollar (Hunter), Hannah Gleason (Seth), Casi Morris and Carl Morris; six great grandchildren; one brother, Wendell Morris (Carolyn) of Manning; and one sister, Ruth Rudd of Alcolu.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Margaret Mims Morris; one brother, Sherwood Morris; and two sisters, Teresa Dukes and Elaine Lowery.
A graveside service will be held 11am on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Clarendon Memorial Gardens with Rev. Wayland Owens officiating. Burial to follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.
The family will received friends Sunday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the home of Lynnette Ard 2354 Newman Branch Road, New Zion and following the service on Monday at the home of Hannah and Seth Gleason 1865 Old Georgetown Road, Manning.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers; John Lighthill, Danny Lighthill, Dustin Poplin, Trey Morris, Hunter Dollard, Carl Morris.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to be made to First Free Will Baptist Church of Kingstree, 2348 Sumter Highway, Kingstree, SC 29556.
COVID-19 precautions of face masks and social distancing are requested at the visitation and service.
