Ava Daye Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Portsmouth Chapel on Dec. 18, 2025.
The family of Ava Jean Daye is saddened by her peaceful passing on December 14, 2025. Ava's spirit was lifted from her mortal body to join the heavenly choir, where she now sings in eternal praise.

Reared by Wilton and Louise Daye of Norfolk, Virginia, she was a longtime resident of the Bolling Brook community and a dedicated member of the community. In her later years, she relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia.

From a young age, Ava had a profound love for gospel music. She was motivated to "Sing unto the Lord a new song." For several years, Ava was a cornerstone of the New Mt. Zion A.M.E. church choir, sharing her alto voice and radiant spirit with the congregation. She touched the hearts of many with the gospel message shared through music, a true testament to her unwavering faith. Ava's favorite song was, "Yes, Lord, Yes, to your will and to your way…" The melodies she brought into this world will continue to reverberate in our hearts forever.

Beyond the choir loft, Ava was a young member of the Democratic Committee of Norfolk. She was also a dedicated teaching assistant with Norfolk Public Schools. Ava was also a Sunday school instructor in her early years. Later, she joined Enoch Baptist Church, where she was a spirit lead and bible feed. Her home was always open, filled with laughter, warmth, and the sound of music. She never knew a stranger and always focused on creating a connection with everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilton and Lousie Daye of Norfolk, and extended family, Cliffton Carver of Baltimore and Philscoe Spears of Rhode Island.

Ava is survived by her sister, Patricia Reid (Ron); brother, Wilton Daye, Jr. (Shirley); brother, Michael Spears; nieces Ronna Reid-Silver (Jermaine) and TeMera Tatem, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
