Avery Washington Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walker Funeral Service and Chapel, Inc. - Decatur - North on Dec. 2, 2025.
Avery Lee Washington, 65, of Decatur, Illinois, completed her earthly journey on November 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on Christmas Day in 1959 to Henry and Georgia Washington, Avery entered the world as a gift-one who would grow to touch countless lives with her warmth, resilience, and deep devotion to those she loved.
A lifelong resident of Decatur, Avery dedicated 25–30 years of service to the Decatur Housing Authority. Throughout her many roles-most notably in maintenance-she worked with steadfast commitment, pride, and compassion.
Avery's joys in life were beautifully simple and profoundly meaningful. She was at home in her kitchen, where she infused every dish with creativity, comfort, and love. She cherished quiet moments by the water with a fishing pole in hand. But above all, Avery found her greatest happiness in her family-enjoying her grandchildren, attending every gathering she could, and celebrating the bonds that sustained her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: LaKeisha Washington, Angelo Washington, Mykel Washington, and Tylinn Washington; her brother, George Washington; her sisters, Anna Rose Washington and Virginia Reed Washington; her special son, Jeremy Hood, special loved ones, Mike Dozier and Paulette Taylor; her daughter-in-law, Rachelle Binkley; and a host of other treasured relatives and dear friends whose lives she profoundly touched.
Avery is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Georgia Washington; daughter, Shannon Washington, her sister, Betty Washington; her brothers, Robert Washington, Andrew Washington, Henry Washington, and Harvey Washington; and her nephews, Anthony Washington and Courtney Ewing.
At this time, condolences and resolutions can be sent via email to: [email protected] or fax: 217-362-6221.

So sorry to learn of Avery's passing. I worked with her for many years at DHA. Not only was she a hard worker, she was truly one of the most kind persons I've ever met. RIP Ave, you were a jewel.
