It is with deep love and gratitude that the family announces the passing of Avis Gennette Cay Evans, of
Jonesville, LA. Funeral services will be held at Jonesville Church of God at 1 pm on Saturday December 13, 2025 with Bro. Dennis Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Evangeline Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at the church before the service from 12 pm until the time of the service at 1 pm.
Avis was born on Thursday, April 06, 1939 in Lismore, La and passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 04, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. Avis was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, who went home to be with the Lord at the age of 86.
A devoted Christian, Avis lived her life with unwavering faith and a heart full of grace. Her relationship with the Lord guided her every step, shaping a life rich in kindness, compassion, and joy. She loved her family fiercely and found her greatest happiness in the moments spent with them.
Avis was a gifted and passionate cook whose meals brought people together and whose kitchen was often filled with the irresistible aroma of something delicious on the stove. Her skills and love for cooking became a thread that tied generations together.
Alongside her husband Jesse, Avis spent many years working on the family's turtle farm, where her dedication and strength helped build a life rooted in hard work and love. Beyond home, she had an adventurous soul and a deep appreciation for experiencing the world. Avis traveled across the globe, collecting memories, friendships, and stories that she joyfully shared with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mittie Cay, her beloved son, Timothy Evans, and her siblings, and is now reunited with them in eternal peace.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Davey Evans (Shirby) of Wildsville, LA; daughter-in-law, Susan Clay (Jason), of Monterey, LA; granddaughters, Alisha Trisler (Jeffery), of Jena, LA, Jennifer Evangelista (Casey), of Jena, LA, Heather Leaphart (Brandon) of Youngsville, LA, Daisy DeWitt (Justin) of Wildsville, LA, Holli House (Ethan) of
Jonesville, LA, and Lily Clay of Monterey, LA; great granddaughters, Carly Trisler, Alaina Trisler, Ella House, and Katie House; great grandsons, Mason Leaphart, Finn DeWitt and Bodhi Evangelista.
Her legacy of faith, love, and adventure lives on in her family and in all who were blessed enough to know her. She will be remembered always for her warm smile, generous heart, and the beautiful life she lived.
Those honoring her as pallbearers will be Jeffery Trisler, Charlie Harris, Brandon Leaphart, Justin DeWitt, Casey Evangelista, and Chris Skinner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bodhi Evangelista, Mason Leaphart, and Finn DeWitt.
