Avis "Ramona" Malingen

Ramona (92) passed away peacefully January 18, 2024, at the Hoffman Senior Living Center.

Avis Corrine (Ramona) Malingen, or as most knew her, Ramona, was born to George and Bergetta (Mindrum) Olson on October 16, 1931. She graduated from Barnesville High School in 1949, and married Alan Malingen on June 16, 1950, at Our Savior’s Church in Barnesville, MN. Their marriage was blessed with 5 children: Gregory, Daniel (Sonia) of Tulare CA, Jonathan of Breckenridge, Joel (Kari) of Bismarck ND, and Rebecca (Dennis) Lundblad of Lowry, MN. Through the years, Ramona enjoyed serving the Lord by singing and playing piano. She was a devoted wife, working alongside Alan on the farm, and a dedicated mom. A gifted seamstress, Ramona made many clothes for her family, including a wedding dress for Rebecca, and also helped numerous people with repairs and alterations throughout the years. Ramona will be remembered by many for the piles of delicious lefse she prepared every Thanksgiving and Christmas! After moving off the farm in 2013, she enjoyed making new friends in Sheridan House of Fergus Falls, MN, and Holly Ridge Manor, Starbuck, MN.

 She was preceded in death by husband Alan; infant son (Gregory); daughters-in-law, Joyce and Denise; 2 grandsons, Jeremy and Jordan Malingen; great grandson Chase Johnson; brothers, Rodney, Stanley, Curtis, and Thomas Olson.

A family-run memorial gathering will be held at 2:00 pm, June 14th, 2024, at Little Bethany Church, 3022 110th ST S, Barnesville, MN. Condolence gifts will be directed to “Camp Joy,” Dent, MN.
