B. Goodman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors on Mar. 9, 2026.
B. Duffy Goodman passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was 72 years old.
Born on April 21, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Meta Ewart Goodman and James Goodman. Duffy carried a sense of adventure and curiosity with him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mark Goodman.
At Virginia Tech, he was part of a traveling college singing group and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He spent 29 years as a chemist with Shell, working in both Houston, Texas, and the Netherlands. During that time, he also became an avid sailor-racing to Veracruz, Mexico, was a highlight of his semi-pro sailing career.
At age 50, he and his wife, Jennifer, embarked on a 10-year midlife adventure to Bocas del Toro, Panama. There, they built two beautiful off-grid homes on a quiet yet world-renowned surf beach, down a sometimes accessible road, and lived amongst the monkeys, sloths, and sea turtles. They made dear, family-like friends-including Harry Grant-along the way.
Later, Duffy and Jennifer moved to Amelia Island where they found another wonderful community. He greatly enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army's Hope House, learning about the region's local history, and taking his daily walks with his dog, Fern.
His lifelong love of animals and sense of adventure took him and Jennifer on multiple trips to South Africa-driving thousands of miles through Kruger National Park-as well as to Iceland, Patagonia, Alaska, and beyond.
Duffy is survived by his wife, Jennifer Goodman; his stepdaughters, Alexa and Tasha; their Husbands, Drew and Scott; and grandchildren, Mason, Evie, Zakary, Brynn, and Braden.
A celebration of life will be planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in his memory to the Salvation Army Hope House, 410 South 9th Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034 | (904) 321-0435.
