Barb Moye Ernst

Barbara "Barb" Moye Ernst passed away peacefully at home in Hillsboro, Ore., on August 20, 2024 at the age of 88. Her son, Stacey, was by her side, playing her favorite hymns. Barb was the first child of Elizabeth Louise Cagle and William Thomas Allen. She married Wilber Lee Moye and later in life married Edward Willis Ernst.
Barb attended Lockyear Business College in Evansville, Ind., and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Indiana State University, setting the foundation for a lifelong dedication to teaching and nurturing others. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa women educators and a life member of ISTA/NEA. Barb taught at Farmersville Elementary School in Mount Vernon, Ind., and later became a grant administrator promoting district-wide reading excellence for the Title I Program in Mount Vernon. Former students often reached out to her to express their gratitude for her guidance and encouragement.
Barb had a zest for life that included a love of travel, the arts, and harmonizing with her sisters. She had a passion for children and reading education. She was never one to shy away from sharing her opinion, and her quick wit sense of humor were a joy to all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved son, Stacey Allen Moye; her two sisters, Donna (husband Dale) and Jae (wife Ruth); and her three nieces, Paige (husband Jeff), Brooke, and Morgan (wife Adriana). She is also survived by three stepchildren in addition to Ruth: Alan (wife Jennifer), Deborah, and Carol (husband Stuart); six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, including Maggie and Will, who lived nearby and brought her much joy in her later years.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents and by both husbands.

On October 20 at 2 p.m., a Celebration of Life will be held in the fellowship hall at Immanuel United Church of Christ at 5812 Ford Road North, Mount Vernon, IN.
