Barbara Jeanne Aitken December 6, 2022 Barbara Jeanne Aitken, 83, of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away on Tuesday at Crouse Hospital. She was born in Syracuse, NY, a daughter to the late James J. and Lucille C. (Lomasney) Aitken. Barb graduated from Convent High School, Valedictorian, Class of 1957. She continued her studies at Le Moyne College, earning her Bachelor's degree in Humanities and completed her education receiving her Master's degree at Oswego State University. Barb enjoyed a 33-year career in education. She taught English at Liverpool High School for many years before becoming Subject Supervisor of the English Department, a position she held until her retirement. Barb loved to travel the world, visiting places like China, Egypt, Hawaii and Ireland to name a few. She was an avid reader, volunteering for a variety of activities at the Baldwinsville Public Library after her retirement. For many years, Barb treasured doing the children's story hour, reading books to the children and creating craft projects related to the books she read. She was on the board of the Baldwinsville Public Library for numerous years, serving as President. Barb also had a love for animals, especially dogs, adopting from local shelters. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's of the Assumption Church in Baldwinsville, NY. Barb is predeceased by her longtime companion and dear friend, Claire Deloria, three sisters; Gertrude Stroup, Mary Meegan, Helen Mohr and her brother, James Aitken, Jr. Surviving to cherish her memory are her three nieces; Sue Ellen (David) Henry, Sharon (Donald) Russell, Pamela (Robert) Masters and her three nephews; Robert J. (Linda) Stroup, Mitchell A. (Catherine) Mohr and James W. Aitken. Barb was also well loved by her 15 great nieces and nephews. Barb's beloved family will greet friends on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am in St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, 47 Syracuse St. Baldwinsville, NY 13027, with a mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am.
