Barbara Ann Arrowood, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in Brevard, North Carolina. She was 79 years old. Born on Saturday, April 6, 1946, in Avery County, North Carolina, Barbara lived a life dedicated to her family, her faith, and her work.
Barbara's life was marked by her compassionate spirit and unwavering dedication to the care of others. As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), she found great joy and fulfillment in tending to the needs of her residents, treating each one with kindness and respect. Her warm heart and gentle nature endeared her to all who knew her.
Barbara cherished her time spent reading her Bible and listening to gospel music, drawing strength and comfort from her faith. She also had a fondness for working on jigsaw puzzles, finding solace in the quiet concentration they required. Above all, Barbara treasured the moments shared with her family, who were always at the center of her heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ben Heartly and Edith (Pat) Heartly, as well as her daughters, Debbie Diaz and Annette Hill.
Barbara leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor her memory, her daughter, Dana Black of Brevard, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Tia Jones, Christopher Hill, Melanie Watson, Erica Soto, Adrian Diaz, Kosho Soto, Brittany Diaz, and Jonathan Jones; her great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Zoe, Kia, Adriana, Manel, Jose, Darren, Alyssa, Jasmine, and Daniella; and one great-great-grandson, Zaire. She is also survived by her stepbrother, David Watson; son-in-law, Johnny Hill; cousin, Mary Hattie P. Staudenmaier; and special friends, Tiffani N. Anders, Toni P. Groff, Jeremy Groff, and daughter Aspen.
The family invites those who wish to pay their respects to a visitation on Thursday, June 5th, at 12 o'clock in the afternoon, followed by a funeral service at 1 o'clock. Barbara will be remembered for her generous spirit, her deep faith, and the love she shared with all whose lives she touched.
