On Thursday September 8, 2022 Barbara Jean Avery transitioned at the age of 90. The adoring mother of four to Steven, Terri, Kurt and David*, the Grandmother of Shanelle, Nicole, Marrissa, Jason, Stephen, Christina, Sandra, Katelyn, Krystal and Tyrone, the Great Grandmother of Michael Jr, Mila, Caleb and Ava.
Born May 16, 1932 in Poughkeepsie NY to Viola and Patrick Avery. She grew up in Mount Vernon NY and attended Evander Childs High School and Pratt Institute. In October 1953 Barbara married Herbert Pickraum, traveled the world and had her four children. After over 20 years of marriage, Barbara enjoyed her life and lived on her own terms as a homemaker, devoted Mother, daycare director, seamstress and artist. She will be remembered for her contagious laughs, all of her great stories and enormous heart.
In the words of Barbara
In lieu of flowers and gifts the family requests donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Barbara loved her children and grandchildren. She would do anything for them.
