Barbara Ruth Bakker peacefully passed away on August 9, 2023, at the age of 81, in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was born on May 19, 1942, in Port Chester, New York, to Ruth and Francis Zwick.
Barbara had a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. She dedicated herself to caring for others before taking on the role of a stay-at-home mother to raise her children. Barbara continued to make a difference in the lives of others, working as a Teacher's Aide for seven years. As her daughters became working mothers, Barbara embraced the role of a stay-at-home grandmother, caring for her grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Nana."
Barbara found joy and fulfillment in creating personalized greeting cards, showcasing her creativity and thoughtfulness. She poured her heart into each card, making them truly special for the recipients. Barbara was a member of the church of Christ. Her strong faith sustained her through the many trials she faced in her battle with lung cancer.
Barbara will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Bruce; her daughters Kimberly and Heidi (Steve); her granddaughters Caitlin (James), Sarah (Brandon), Taylor (Cody), and Amelia; her grandson TJ (Doane); and her great-granddaughters Esme and Maggie. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ruth and Francis Zwick.
A memorial service to honor Barbara's life will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, a cause close to Barbara's heart.
Barbara's legacy of love, care, and creativity will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
