Opelousas, A funeral service will be held for Barbara Heck Bernard on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Pastor Benny Reppond will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas.
Barbara Heck Bernard, born on December 23, 1947, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at her residence in Opelousas, Louisiana, on February 19, 2025. She was a beloved figure, known for her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit.
Barbara lived a full and vibrant life, marked by her passionate dedication to family and an array of interests that brought joy to those around her. She cherished her time spent with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. Cooking was not just a hobby for Barbara; it was an expression of her nurturing spirit, and she delighted in preparing meals that brought family together. Her love for singing infused joy into her life and the lives of others, as she often shared her beautiful voice with friends and family.
Barbara is remembered for her warmth, her kindness, and the way she made everyone feel welcomed and valued. Her legacy will continue through the countless lives she touched throughout her years.
Barbara is survived by her husband, James Bernard of 55 years; daughter, Brenda Bernard Keen and her husband Shawn of Cambridge City, Indiana; brothers, Warren Heck of Covington, LA, Ray Heck of Covington, LA, and Douglas Heck and his wife Emily of Hammond, LA; sister, Sharon Heck and her husband Fred of Covington, LA; 5 grandchildren, Ty Aymond, Hunter Aymond, Kyle Keen, Emily Bernard, and Joshua Bernard; and 2 great-grandchildren, Gavin Picard and Charli Picard.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Heck and Hazel Lloyd Heck; and her son James “Jimmy” Leo Bernard Jr.
She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
