Barbara Brown

Barbara Brown, 93, of Atkinson, NH passed away on Dec. 25, 2025 at Parkland Medical Center.

Barbara was born in Windham, NH the daughter of the late Esther and Charles Burns. She graduated High School in Rhode Island. When she met her husband, David, they built their life in NH. She worked until her son was born.

Barbara was a loving and devoted mother whose life revolved around her son, David Brown Jr. David was the center of her world and she poured her heart into caring for him and advocating on his behalf.

A true pioneer in her community, Barbara was deeply involved in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and she helped establish vital programs for children, leaving a lasting legacy of inclusion, compassion and opportunities for many families.

Known for her boundless generosity and kind heart, Barbara was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She was very supportive of many local charities. Her great sense of humor brought joy and laughter to everyone around her.

Fiercely independent well into her later years, Barbara continued mowing her lawn on the tractor in her 80's, a testament to her strength and determination. When many of her friends could no longer drive, she chauffeured them to appointments, shopping trips and errands, ensuring they remained connected and cared for.

Barbara was very grateful for her cousin, Nancy Boylan and her friends, Ginny Schimanski and Jeanne Elliot, who presence enriched her life immeasurably.

Barbara's legacy of kindness, resilience and community service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband, David Brown, Sr. and her son, David Brown Jr.

Visitation will be Friday, January 2nd from 1:00 -2:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St. Salem, NH. Burial will be in the spring at Atkinson Cemetery.
