WEST MILTON - Barbara Lillian Brumbaugh of West Milton, age 84, went to be with her Savior on July 19, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born on February 12, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Gertrude (Scharlau) and Walter Bein. She met her husband, Philip Brumbaugh, while attending the University of Illinois. After their marriage on July 5, 1958, Phil took Barb back to his childhood home of West Milton, Ohio, where they spent the next 63 years making their life and raising five children together.
Barb was an amazing woman whose kindness, creativity, sharp sense of humor, and fun-loving spirit made her loved by all who knew her. She loved all sports, but especially tennis, which she taught to all her children. She loved playing well into the later years of her life, and especially enjoyed her ladies group that played together every week for nearly 50 years. She enjoyed and was gifted at woodworking, sewing, and many other crafts, working puzzles, playing cards with her friends, serving at her local church, Community Grace Brethren, coaching many sports throughout the years, and too many other creative activities to list. But most of all, Barb loved spending time with her family. She played a very active role in their lives, and loved watching her children and then grandchildren in whatever sports and activities they were involved with. A highlight of her life was taking care of her loved ones at the family cabin in Coldwater, Michigan. Many wonderful memories were made there, largely due to her and how she could always think of creative activities to keep the children busy, fed, having fun, and most importantly…. Outside. She taught countless people to waterski over the years, and to the family's best memory, her last trip around the lake on a slalom ski was at age 72. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by her family and friends, and the impact she had on so many lives.
Along with her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother Walter "Bud" Bein, son-in-law Kevin Lee Finfrock, granddaughter Tasmin Nicole Duncan, and infant grandson Andrew Steven Brumbaugh.
She will be forever in the hearts of her family who survive her: her loving husband Philip C. Brumbaugh; children Walter Brumbaugh of West Milton, Cheryl (David) Duncan of Lakewood, Colorado, Diana Finfrock, Steven (Jennifer) Brumbaugh, and John (Jessica) Brumbaugh, all of West Milton; grandchildren Kaci (Philip) Matthews, Jessica (Joseph) Taffe, Jacob (Katie) Finfrock, Matthew (Taylor) Brumbaugh, Philip, Nicolas, Nathan, Blake, Shannon, Jenna, and Levi Brumbaugh; great-grandsons Joseph Leo and Benjamin Taffe; brother Robert (Ruth) Bein of Corona Del Mar, California; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, July 24, at Community Grace Brethren Church, 2261 N. Miami Street, West Milton. Pastor Jacob Kesling will officiate with interment following at Riverside Cemetery, West Milton. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday at the church.
