Barbara June Bunkley, 74, passed away on June 25, 2024, in Abilene, Texas. Born on October 2, 1949, in Abilene to Charles and Mary Jo Lusk, Barbara spent her entire life in her beloved hometown. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Aldersgate Methodist Church 1741 Sayles Blvd.
Barbara attended the Abilene School District, graduating from Cooper High School. She continued her education at McMurry University, where she cultivated her lifelong love for learning and community involvement. It was at a friend's gathering that she met Garry Bunkley, the love of her life. The two were married on April 24, 1971, and shared 53 wonderful years together.
Barbara dedicated many years working as an office manager at Bunkley Electric, where she worked alongside her loving husband. Her professional life was marked by her unwavering dedication and her ability to manage and support the business.
In her personal time, Barbara enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, playing blackjack, and participating in church activities. A devoted member of Aldersgate Methodist Church, she took great pride in teaching the adult Bible class for 40 years. Her commitment to her faith and community left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Above all, Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her family deeply and was always there to support them. Her loving presence, guidance, and unwavering support will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Mary Jo Lusk; brother, Ronald Lusk; and sister Beverly Linnstaedter.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Garry Bunkley; two children, Michelle Terra and husband Gregory, and Brent Bunkley and wife Jennifer; three grandchildren, Mary Jo Capurso and husband Chris, Ester Terra, and Harper Bunkley; one sister, Cyndy Johnson and husband Mike; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
Barbara's memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and dedication to family and community will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked donations be made to Aldersgate Methodist Church in Barbara's memory.
