Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory - Madison HeightsOur beloved Barbara Jean Burford slipped into eternal rest, Monday, March 23, 2026, at her residence in Monroe, Va., with family and friends by her side. She never wavered in her faith or fight against her battle with cancer.
Born in Monroe, Va. on March 7,1950, to the late Deacon Herman, Sr. and Ruth Kelly Burford.
Barbara joined Rising Sun Baptist Church at an age. She was educated in Amherst County Public Schools. She was employed at Old Dominion Box Company for thirty years and later worked for Amelon Laundromat for Twelve years. She was an avid gardener, cook, baker and decorator. Her main passion was her love for her family, friends and neighbors.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Lee and Deacon Herman Burford Jr., One sister Roxanne Burford.
Barbara is survived by one brother, Kerry (Loretta) of Madison Heights, Va., two sisters, Delma Maxine and Doris Burford of Monroe, Va., Her loved and cherished niece, Melissa Smith. Her heart melted for her nephews Daniel, Teon (Rachel) Burford, her great nieces, Alyah, and Brianna Burford, her great nephews, Quarmaine Sandidge, Justin Burford, her great- great nephew and niece, Kayden and Amaya Sandidge. One uncle, James (Peggy) Burford of Clinton Maryland, three aunts, Dallas, Rochelle, and Gwendolyn Burford. Sister-in-law Ruth Curby Burford.
Special thanks to Arlene Braxton and family, Virginia Williams and family, Amherst UVA Dialysis Center, Centra Hospice and Allen B. Pearson Cancer Center for all their care for Barbara.
A service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights, on Saturday, April 11. 2026 at 1PM.
