Barbara Calosso Obituary

Barbara Calosso
February 23, 1935 - November 20, 2023
Barbara Calosso, 88, of West Haven passed away peacefully at CT Hospice on Nov. 20, 2023. Barbara was born on February 23, 1935 to the late Antonio and Amalia Osana Calosso. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Calosso.
Barbara attended and graduated from Saint Mary's High School in New Haven, CT. She was employed as a staff assistant in the Comptroller's office of Southern Connecticut Telephone Company for over 30 years until her retirement.
Barbara was a devout Catholic and member of St. John Vianney Church where she served many roles including Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister. She gave generously of her time, talent and treasure; volunteering at the Church Carnival, Diaper Bank, Food Pantry and Clothes Closet. If there was a Church function, Barbara was always there to lend a helping hand, along with her best friend, Regina Stevens, who predeceased her last year on November 25th, 2022.
In recognition of her innumerable contributions to church life, she received the Saint Joseph Award for Dedicated Service in 2011.
Barbara's other love was her beautiful garden and the birds that visited daily. They were a constant source of joy for her, especially in her final months.
Well-loved by her many cousins and neighbors, Barbara was known for her gentle demeanor and kindness. Barbara brought comfort and love to all who knew her. Despite being gone from our sight, her spirit lives on in all of us who were lucky enough to have had her in our lives.
She is survived by her loving St. John XXIII Parish family, her cousins in the US and Italy, and her beloved Richmond Avenue neighborhood friends. She will remain forever in the hearts of the Cheng family of California, and especially the Cangiano family, of which she has been a part for 78 years. Special thanks to her caregiver, Anna Pirog, and dear neighbors Sandra Brinson and Sara Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Barbara's favorite charities: St. John Vianney Church/St. John XIII Parish, The Special Olympics, or CT Hospice (for the full list see marescafuneralhome.com).
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John XXIII Parish at St. John Vianney Church on Dec. 2, 2023 at 11 a.m.
Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Maresca & Sons Funeral Home, 592 Chapel St. is in charge of arrangements. Offer condolences at marescafuneralhome.com

I am so sad to belatedly here of her passing. Barbara was a patient at my dental office and she was an amazing person. Barbara was the most thoughtful kind and generous person I have ever met.
Barbara would send me a beautiful handwritten birthday card every year and I still have all of them, she was just wonderful.
I will always pray for you and your loved ones Barbara,
