Barbara Jo Banner Cartwright, 81, passed away on July 8, 2025, in
Simi Valley, California. A celebration of her life will be held on August 16, 2025, at Reardon Funeral Home, 2636 Sycamore Dr,
Simi Valley, CA 93065. There will be a brief service and time for sharing memories from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Barbara was born on June 29, 1944, in Oakland, California, to Louis and Retha Banner. She had two brothers, Pat and Mike, and was the loving mother of three sons: Robert, Richard (Rick), and Franklin (Frank).
Barbara had a deep love for travel, new experiences, and the joy of meeting people from all walks of life. Whether it was a train ride back to her roots in Grant City, Missouri, or a flight to the vibrant cities of New York, San Francisco, or Chicago, she embraced every journey with enthusiasm. Her adventures took her across the Atlantic to explore the charm and culture of Amsterdam, Paris, London, Frankfurt, and Edinburgh. She also found joy in the warmth and beauty of tropical destinations like Tahiti, Cancun, and Cabo. Wherever she went, Barbara brought her sense of wonder and warmth, leaving lasting impressions and collecting cherished memories along the way.
Barbara had a gentle soul and a generous heart. She found joy in gardening, nurturing both plants and people, and standing by her "crazy" husband with unwavering love and support. She was, quite simply, the kindest person you could ever hope to meet-unselfish to her core and devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her comforting hand on your back could calm any storm, and her beautiful smile lit up every room she entered.
She welcomed every wild idea her kids dreamed up-and even those from the paperboys of District 203-with open arms and an open mind. Her spirit was playful, her love unconditional, and her elegant cursive signature remained perfect to the very end.
Barbara was a devoted follower of Jesus, living a life of quiet faith and deep compassion. She loved to read, often getting lost in the pages of a good book. She also found delight in life's simple pleasures-especially artichokes and the annual Rose Parade. These little joys, combined with her unwavering faith and kindness, defined the beautiful life she lived and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Franklin, her son Robert, and her sister-in-law Loyola. She is survived by her brother Pat and his family; her brother Mike, his wife Mary, and their family; her sons Rick and Frank and their wives, Lisa and Pam; her grandson Cody and his wife Veronica; granddaughter Taylor and her husband Danny; and granddaughter Kai. She also leaves behind her great-grandson Hunter, great-granddaughter Harper, and a wide circle of dear friends.
Barbara's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. IMMYKIDSMOM62944 To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Barbara, please visit our Tree Store.
