Barbara Lea Chouinard, 77, of Escanaba, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025 at her home.
She was born in Weston, WV on February 25, 1948, daughter of Hayward and Opal (Jarvis) Swisher. With her father in the Navy, their family traveled to several east coast bases during her childhood. Her high school years were spent in Maryland and she graduated in 1966. She then continued her education and earned her degree from Capital City School of Nursing in Washington D.C.
Following her marriage to Jim Chouinard Sr. in 1968, the couple moved to Escanaba.
Over the years, Barbara worked as a registered nurse at OSF St. Francis Hospital and Christian Park Health Care Center.
Barbara loved to sew, crochet, knit, read, and collect rocks. Going to her children and grandchildren's functions and sports were her absolute favorite times spent.
She was a member of Holy Family Church and the lady's altar society.
She is survived by children, James (Behl) Chouinard of Oklahoma City, OK, Seth (Joanne) Chouinard of Cornell, Justin (Katie) Chouinard of Iron Mountain, Stacy (Tony) Pinar of Cornell, and Dominique (Chris) Veeser of Cornell; grandchildren, Gade, Shaynah, Asher, Elijah, Aubrey, Evan, Shannon, Tanner, Annabelle, Julianne, Lola, Beckett, Chase, Alyssa, Hannah, and Preston; four great-grandchildren; brother, Mark Swisher of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, David.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22th from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at noon with Rev. Timothy Ferguson officiating.
Burial will take place in Escanaba Twp. Cemetery in Flat Rock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family, c/o Stacy Pinar, and a memorial will be established at a later date.
