Barbara Coleman Obituary

CHESHIRE - Mrs. Barbara Bancroft Coleman, 93, passed over on February 21, 2023 surrounded by her children. Barbara was born on May 31, 1929, in Cincinnati, OH, daughter of the late MacGregor and Margaret (Pettyjohn) Bancroft. She was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Barbara was raised in Milford, OH, with her late brother, MacGregor Bancroft, her late sister, Beverlee Critchell, and loving parents, where she developed lifelong friendships. Her childhood was an idyllic time in her life, which she recalled fondly. After graduating from Milford High School, Barbara attended finishing school further supporting an interest in fashion, modeling, theater, and a position as a radio talk show hostess. Barbara came from a long line of clergy and devout Christians. Barbara found a strong sense of community and fellowship through her church and was dedicated to lifelong learning through bible study groups and courses.

Barbara loved to travel and spent many years with her husband, the late Herbert Coleman, in retirement in San Diego, CA, before returning to Cheshire, a few years ago. Throughout her life, Barbara loved to laugh and was always lent a listening ear. Barbara was an outgoing positive person whose beauty truly began in her heart.

Barbara leaves behind by her sons, Braden Plant, and his fiancé Eileen Curran, of Newport, R.I., Brian Plant and his wife Karen, of Henrico, VA and daughter, Margaret Plant and spouse Bonnie Nicol, her grandchildren Jennifer Urbany and Jessica Ruckert, Braden Andrew Plant and her four great-grandsons.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Herbert Coleman, and sons George "Dale" Plant III and Andrew Plant who were among many welcoming her to heaven.

I loved Barbara Coleman! She was beautiful and encouraging. I loved her voice and hearing her read a lesson on Sunday morning at Good Shepherd, Bonita, California. Barbara gave me practical words of encouragement during a difficult moment of my life. I was so grateful. Beautiful, talented, loving, encouraging Barbara left a phone message that I have saved for years. She was a delight to know!

My family attended Good Shepherd with Barbara, and we miss her deeply. I wish we had known the last time we saw her would be the last time so we could have hugged her harder. She once drove into downtown San Diego to take me to lunch, in her giant car, and got a little lost, but we were able to meet up. It was such a generous gesture for her to come into downtown and navigate the one-way streets. I can still picture her across the table from me.

She attended some of our kids' musical theater performances with Judy - David Hopkins' sister. We treasure a picture of the two of them there.

She had a smile for everyone, and we loved her fashion and her bling. She had a large spirit and her absence leaves a hole in our hearts. Sending so much love to her precious family. We know love wins and have no doubt our precious Barbara is safe in the hands of God.

Barbara was a wonderful person with a sparkling personality. She was also a very talented actress who contributed to the success of a video we made to celebrate the ministry of Fr. Frank Maguire at Church of the Good Shepherd, Bonita, CA. Her friendship was priceless and a blessing to all who knew her.

Barbara and I were both born in Cincinnati Ohio. I enjoyed Barbara and I´d jokingly ask her where to buy my tickets to see her on stage. Her theatrical voice was bigger than life. Her wardrobe never saw a dull collar in it. Her accessories shimmered and added commotion to every conversation. I jokingly would say that she had escaped from Hollywood. Sometimes I´d sit in her living room alone with her and I´d feel like there was an invisible presence with us. After awhile I could sense that she was close to God. She´d tell me Jesus was alive and how she wanted her family and friends to search and understand that. For me, knowing Barbara brought mirth and joy to my spirit. Once thing I know about Barb, she believed Jesus was alive and in us. We had our last conversation about February 1st and I miss her and her infectious cheerfulness. I am glad to know her as my friend,

I attended the church Barbara attended in Bonita,
Caifornia. We all loved her. She was beautiful and orally spoke beautifully. We remember Herb as well. We have missed her since she left and we are sorry to hear of her passing, but she lived life well. She never would tell her age, but if I Iook and act as she did at her age, I wo;; shout it to the hills. She was a unique amazing woman. I am so glad I was able to know her and that she spent her last years with family.

Been sorely missing you, Barbara. My fondest memories are of you teaching Ginny and me and several others The Charleston back in 1998, and you serving on a Cursillo Team in 2019. Till we meet again, blessings and love, Ruben
