Barbara Bernette Crump departed this life on Sunday, December 10, 2023, in West Virginia with her family by her side. She was born on April 15, 1956, in Williamsburg, Virginia. She always said that no one should ever forget her birthday because it was Tax Day. She was the daughter of the late William, Virginia, and Aline Wallace. At eleven years old, Barbara accepted Christ and was baptized in New Zion Baptist Church by Rev. J.H. Moody.
Barbara was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life the late Ronald A. Crump Sr. who just happened to be her neighbor. They were happily married for over 30 years. Through this union, they were blessed to raise 3 children, Lashawn Crump, Ronda Reeder, and Ronald A. Crump Jr.
She was educated in the James City County Public Schools system. She took up secretarial skills that prepared her for the workforce and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1974. Upon graduating she moved to Alexander, VA., where her big sister Nancy and Loretta lived. She and her family later moved and settled in District Heights, MD.
She began her career in the Washington, D.C area with her first job working for the U.S. Department of justice. From there she worked for the District of Columbia government, the Pentagon, and finally the State Department where she retired in 2018. She later moved to West Virginia with her daughter Lashawn in 2020.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She would cook fried chicken (her specialty) and mac and cheese because she knew that was their favorite food. She loved to watch football, her team was the Dallas Cowboys and Mary J. Blige was her favorite singer. She liked to travel; she took family cruises to visit Caribbean ports. Enjoyed Mother -daughter trips to different cities. She, her children, and grandchildren would book trips to resorts and bond as a family. She was all bout family. No matter the outfit she always had on jewelry, it could be sweatpants or a blouse she would have some type of jewelry on. She just knew she looked good. She was very proud of her grandchildren. Always taking pictures and sending them to family members, sometimes she would send the same picture twice.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Carrie, and Berlie Wallace, her maternal grandparents, Willie and Rena Brown, her brother Robert Brown, sister Lynda Darden, brother-in-law Stanford Taylor, Larry Townsend, and Floyd Crump. She leaves cherished and blessed memories for her children Lashawn (Fred), Ronda (Mike), and Ronald (Terrionne), her grandchildren Marquis Crump (Jazmine), Ellis Crawford III, Kenneth Reeder III, and Montana Mango, great -grandchildren Madison Grimes and Makari Crump, sisters, Caroline Mason (Richard), Nancy Morrison (Johnny), June Demyers, Loretta Wallace-Townsend, Carrie Taylor, Sharon Taliaferro (Chris), Virginia Carter, brothers, Thomas Wallace (Bettie), Modusta Wallace (Maylin), Allen Wallace, Alvin Wallace (Tiny), brother-in-law Troy Crump (Ingrid), Aunt Doris Brooks (Alfred), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends
