Barbara Cummins, a beloved wife, mother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at the age of 84 in Florida. Born Barbara Jean Legg, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the only daughter of David and Eva Legg.
Barbara's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, friendship, devotion and faith. She was the beloved wife of Larry Cummins for 61 adventurous years – traveling the world by both air and sea -- enjoying great food, sharing laughs and creating countless memories together. She was the loving and precious mother to Jim and Carin (Doug) and, the most dedicated 'gramma' to fur-babies BG, Blue and Gracie; who we are certain were first to greet her at Heaven's gate. Barbara also had many nieces and nephews in the Cummins family that she loved dearly.
Barbara was a great cook, renowned for her NY-style cheesecake and complete Thanksgiving meals served all year long. Although no matter what she was cooking, 5:00 was 'gin martini time', which her husband never failed to make for her. She loved to golf, dance, watch University of Michigan football, and anything else that kept her body moving. Friends and family benefited from her kindness, keen interest in others and radiant personality. If you ever needed help to fix or do something, everyone knew she was just a phone call away no matter the time of day.
There will be a private family farewell and prayers at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home on Monday, November 25. The following day, Barbara's immediate family will accompany her to her final resting place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you raise a glass in Barbara's memory. A toast to celebrate a life well-lived would be greatly appreciated.
Barbara's spirit and the love she gave us will be remembered fondly. And for those lucky enough to have been loved by her, you know that you now have the very best of angels watching over you.
