Barbara J. Dalgarn, 94, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026, at Brookdale Memory Care Center in Phoenix, Arizona, following a period of declining health. A memorial service at Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff and inurnment at Fairview Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
Barb was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Oliver and Mabel Olson on January 18, 1932. She attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Home Economics.
While Allen Dalgarn was serving in the Air Force at Ellsworth Air Base in Rapid City, he and Barb met and fell in love. They were married on March 5, 1955. Al passed away in 2017 after 62 years of marriage. Barb eventually moved to Arizona to be closer to her children.
A talented musician, Barb taught piano in Scottsbluff for many years and served as the organist for Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong choir member and an avid bowler, participating in several leagues alongside Al.
She is survived by her children: sons Jeff of Mesa, AZ; Greg (Cindy) of Scottsdale, AZ; and Jonathan of Phoenix, AZ; and daughter Kathy Mark of Scottsdale, AZ. She is also survived by grandsons Colby Mark (Sierra and great-grandson Jasper), Lucas Mark, and Drew Dalgarn; step-grandsons Cameron Mark (Tiffany and three great-grandchildren) and Tyler Mark (Melissa and two great-grandchildren); as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Conway Olson and Don Olson (and his wife, Betty); and her son-in-law, Carey Mark.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be shared at www.messingermortuary.com.
