Barbara Emma Deetz Bankert, 86, passed away April 30, 2023, at Chambersburg Hospital. She was born March 2, 1937, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Ralph and Edith (Jackson) Deetz Jr. Barbara married Gordon Bankert and went on to have two children: Jeffrey and Pamela.
She was a graduate of the Girls High School in Philadelphia, PA. Barbara graduated in 1959 from Gettysburg College with Sociology and Elementary Education degrees. She was an elementary school teacher for the Chambersburg Area School District teaching at Mary B. Sharpe, Thaddeus Stevens, and South Hamilton for a total of 30 years. She was a long time member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and a resident of Menno Haven for 10 years.
Barbara is survived by; Jeffrey (Joanne) Bankert and Pamela Bankert; grandchildren: Jaclyn Hilberg, Rachel Maxwell, Steven Bankert; great-grandchildren: Evelyn Hilberg, Alec Hilberg, Owen Hilberg; brothers: David (Dorothea) Deetz and Richard (Hester) Deetz. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, and her parents.
The Funeral Service will be Friday, May 5, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 431 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA, with the Rev. Ruth Smith officiating. Private interment will be held at St. Paul's (Dubs) Union Church, Hanover, PA.
