Barbara Joan Dick, age 92, passed away at her home on March 11, 2026.
Barbara was born on September 5, 1933, in Hoopeston, Illinois, to Albert Hoover and Lillie (Childers) Hoover. She graduated from Marion High School in 1951 and went on to complete two years of college. Barbara began her career as a special education teacher before moving to Florida, where she discovered her calling in healthcare. She was a natural caregiver—patient, devoted, and compassionate.
After returning to Illinois, Barbara continued her work in home health and lovingly cared for her parents through their final years. She had a deep love for gardening, especially growing vegetables, and enjoyed reading, working on jigsaw puzzles, and crocheting.
She is survived by her three children, Robert Dick, Susan King, and Nancy Dick; her grandchildren, Jamie Allen, Riane Dick, Michael King, Matthew (Tyra) King, and Heather Hodge; her great grandchildren, Kendal Cowper, Olivia Allen, Wyatt King, Weston King, and Izabella Arredondo; her sister in law, Sharon Hoover; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillie; and her brothers, Robert Hoover, Don (Jane) Hoover, Graydon Hoover, and David Hoover.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley Ross Funeral Home. Services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in Carmi, Illinois.
