Barbara Diersen

Barbara E. "Barb" Diersen, 86, of Kankakee, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday (Sept. 18, 2024), from her home.

She was born April 12, 1938, in Kankakee, the daughter of Henry and Blossom (Richter) Eden. Barb married Richard Diersen on Nov. 3, 1962, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kankakee.

Barb worked at First Trust Bank as the marketing director for many years and one of the highlights of that job was taking senior bank customers on trips around the world. She was very active and enjoyed golfing, playing tennis and painting canvases. Barb loved traveling, especially to Branson, Mo. She was an avid reader. Most of all, Barb loved spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kankakee, and served on various boards and committees throughout her years. She was also a member of the hand bell choir.

Surviving are her husband, Richard Diersen, of Kankakee; two daughters, Brenda (Kip) Hancock, of Wheaton, and Cathy (Jim) Hedge, of Bourbonnais; four grandchildren, Erin (Tyler) Bruzda, Kirby Hancock (Erik Browne), Jenna (T.J.) Nehls and Jayce Hedge.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. An additional time for visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, until the 11 a.m. funeral, both at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. The Rev. Karl Koeppen will officiate the service. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or UpliftedCare Hospice, Bourbonnais.
