Barbara Ann Matthews Douglas, a beloved member of the Madison community, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on May 16, 1940, Barbara dedicated herself to her family, faith, and friends throughout her life. She is remembered for her happy disposition, big beautiful smile, and her caring nature that made her a cherished people person.
Barbara devoted 24 years of her career to serving as a Guidance Secretary for Metro Public Schools, positively impacting countless students and families through her work. Her legacy extends beyond her professional life into the hearts of her family, who remain her proudest accomplishment. Barbara, affectionately known as "MiMi," found great joy in her role as a mother and grandmother, nurturing and inspiring her children and grandchildren alike.
A longtime member and longtime choir member of Parkway Baptist Church, Barbara exemplified her faith in her daily life and was known for her warmth and welcoming spirit. She had a passion for life and was always ready for an adventure, which endeared her to many.
Barbara is survived by her children, Kathye West, Tommy (Rhonda) Douglas, and Mike (Kelly) Douglas. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Danny, Doug, Beth (James), Jordan (Zach), Aaron (Maggie), and Anna, as well as her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Addison, Brianna, Sarah, and Boston. Barbara is further survived by her siblings, Dixie Seagraves, Mickey (Shelia) Matthews, and Frankie (Sherry) Matthews, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, all of whom will carry forward her memory and spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Douglas; her son, Butch Douglas; and her parents, Curtis and Frankie Matthews; and brother in law, Sonny Seagraves.
A visitation will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Goodlettsville on August 26, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will continue on August 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will follow on August 27 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, also at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, burial will take place at Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Pleasant View, TN.
Barbara Ann Douglas will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her, leaving a legacy of love, compassion, and joy.
